Terry D Harris

Terry Dean Harris, 63, of Monmouth, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 15, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – St Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Calkins Barn in Wyoming. Memorial service will be Friday March 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Calkins Barn in Wyoming. Burial will follow at the Monmouth Cemetery. Terry’s family is requesting comfortable & casual attire to be worn for all services.

Terry was born September 19, 1960, in Independence, the son of Dean and Shirley (Arnold) Harris. He grew up around the Winthrop area and was a 1979 graduate of East Buchanan High School. Many of those classmates became lifelong friends. He completed course work in both construction and agriculture at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo. His love of all things outdoors, from hunting to raising cattle, led him to his career choices. He and his father started their own concrete business before he relocated to Wyoming, Iowa. He spent over 40 years working as a crop specialist serving Linn, Jones and Cedar counties where he created a second family. 

He met the love of his life and married Connie Hansen on March 16, 2013. Where there were no steps just one blended family. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Terry was a story teller, putting a hilarious spin on his tales of misadventure. He was a past Wyoming Fair Board president and was active at Little Bear Country Club and was on the board. He enjoyed helping out in the community, especially on the Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Connie, children, Stephanie (David) Muters of Marion; Amanda (Will) Holland of Clarence; Melissa (Kevin) Kiburz of Scotch Grove; Travis (Elisha) Hansen of Center Junction; eight grandchildren Braedyn, Hallie, Brittney, Kelsey, Royce, Landri, Quinn and Case; one great grandson Elias; his sister Christina (Marvin) Hermsen of Jesup; mother and father in law Robert and Lois Leonard of Onslow; in laws Kathy Bone of Monticello, Kevin (Brenda) Leonard of Wyoming, and Gary (Renee) Leonard of Center Junction; the mother of his children, Christa Brandt of Anamosa; many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
