John Ramon Burke, 90, of Lost Nation passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.
His funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lost Nation. A visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Wedneday, October 5, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 pm where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lost Nation. Dawson Funeral Services of Maquoketa is caring for his family.
Ramon was born on July 4, 1932 in Clinton, Iowa to Steve and Marguerite (McGarry) Burke. On June 28, 1952 he was united in marriage to Crystal Anderson at Sacred Heart Church in Lost Nation. He served faithfully and honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany from 1952-1954. In April of 2022 he attended the Honor Flight, accompanied by his grandson John McDermott. He was a humble man of great faith who strived to live his life as Christ’s hands and feet on this earth. Ramon farmed in Clinton County for many years and taught for 30 years in the Northeast Community School District.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Debra (Mark) McDermott of DeWitt, Colleen Burke of Lost Nation, daughter-in-law Janet Burke of Lost Nation, five grandchildren; Stephanie (Dean) Luttrell, Kevin (Heather) Burke, Eric (Bo) McDermott, John McDermott, David (Cassie) McDermott, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters; Marian Connell of Grand Mound, Karen (Florian) Steffen of Deerfield Beach, Florida, and sisters-in-law; Joan Burke of DeWitt, Nancy Anderson of Murphy, Texas and Margaret Anderson of Dallas, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son Dennis, brother Charles, brothers-in-law; Al Connell, JC Gohlmann, Marvin Anderson, Vernon Anderson, Arnold Anderson and sisters-in-law; Opal Leafstone, Carol Miller and Hope Drummond.
