Thane "Zip" Merrill

Thane “Zip” R. Merrill Jr., lifelong resident of Wyoming, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Pinicon Senior Living in Anamosa.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 pm at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming. Burial will be held at the Wyoming Cemetery.

Zip was born on April 13, 1933, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He was the son of Thane R. Merrill Sr. and Saidee May Montgomery. After attending several schools in other states he graduated from Wyoming Independent School in May of 1951. On May 26, 1951, Zip married Juanita Marlene Eilers at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church. Zip was employed by Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, Iowa until 1999 when they closed. He then went to Rockwell Collins, where he retired. Zip was a Mason and belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Wyoming as well as a volunteer for the Wyoming Fire Department. Zip and Juanita enjoyed golfing, as well as camping and fishing. They spent their winters in the sunny south of Arizona and Florida.

Zip is survived by his daughter Gail Merrill (George) of Wyoming, son Dan (Kelly) Merrill of Anamosa, son Alan (Nancy) Merrill of Cedar Rapids, one grandson Nicholas (Kelsey) Merrill of Springville, one granddaughter Michelle (Ryan) Buhr of Norwalk and five great-grandchildren. One brother Fred (Ruth Ann) Merrill of Sedonia, Arizona.

Zip is preceded in death by his parents, wife Juanita of 69 years, a granddaughter and a great grandson.
