Richard (Dick) Lucius Fleming, 86, of Olin, Iowa, passed away on May 29, 2026, at Silver Oak Nursing & Rehabilitation in Marion.
Richard was born at home on February 1, 1940, in rural Center Point, Iowa, the son of Ivan and Ruth (Bider) Fleming. He married Marcella Marie Jerome on January 1, 1961, in Iowa City, Iowa. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage and raised a family centered on hard work, faith, and family. They lived the majority of their lives in Olin, IA, enjoying their community and friends. Last year they relocated to Marion, IA to be closer to family.
Dick worked over 35 years as a cement truck driver and was known for his strong work ethic and dependable nature. He helped build hundreds of foundations for homes in eastern Iowa. He enjoyed farming, working on his tractors and was a proficient handyman. Dick loved spending time in his shop often talking to friends and family while working. He taught his four-year-old great granddaughter Melody (MelMel) all about mechanics and tools. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when someone needed it.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Marcella; his children, Rick Fleming of Cedar Rapids, Deborah (Phil) Fordyce of Marion, IA and James King of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Brauer and brother, William (JoAnn) Fleming, sister-in-law Evelyn Fleming along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Laurie Sills; his great granddaughters, Melody Hoffman (MelMel) and Ellie Hoffman; his sisters, Irene (Dean) Betzer, Margaret (Stanley) Hendrickson and Shirley (Dean) Zumbrunnen; and his brothers, Dean (Evelyn) Fleming and Harold “Buzz” (Deb) Fleming.
Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2026 at11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Dawson Funeral Services in Olin, IA. A funeral service celebrating Dick’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m. following the visitation. Burial will be immediately following at the Olin Cemetery.
