Mary Elizabeth Reid, 71, of Wyoming, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on August 16, 1954, in Moline, Illinois, to Frank Dunbar, Sr. and Dorothy (Defrieze) Dunbar. She graduated from Moline High School and continued her education at Black Hawk Community College.
On a beautiful day thirty years ago, Mary married the love of her life, Mark Reid, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and countless memories.
Mary had many roles over the years, but she was especially proud to have owned Hidden Treasure in Onslow, Iowa. She was also a devoted dog mom, a master mushroom hunter, and never passed up the thrill of a good yard sale. She served as past president of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Moline, Illinois, and her passions included horses, music, traveling, reading, and all kinds of animals. A true adventurer at heart, she was an avid rock collector and found joy in every new experience. Above all, her greatest blessings in life were her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Mark; her children: Samantha (Kevin Sanders) Partlow-Palmer of Eldridge, Iowa; Joseph (Amy Fry) Gordon of LeClaire, Iowa; and Pauline (Kristopher) Gordon-Pender of East Moline, Illinois; her sister, Carlara “Cookie” Brumbaugh; her brother, Russell (Caroline) Dunbar of Hampton, Illinois; five grandchildren: Jaida, Jaymin, Allison, Haili, and Kaydince; eight bonus grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her beloved dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Frank Dunbar Jr.
Honoring Mary’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Wyoming Historical Society or Moline Animal Aid. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dawsonfuneral.com.
