Marie Yarolem

Marie Arleen Yarolem, 74, of Maquoketa passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at her home. Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Her visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa from 4:00-7:00 pm. Burial Will take place at Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Maquoketa. 

Marie Arleen Yarolem was born in the old Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa on October 10, 1946. She was delivered by Dr. John Jordan. She was the daughter of Truman and Arlene Yarolem of rural Monmouth. Marie graduated from Maquoketa High School as an honor student in 1965. In 1978 Marie received a secretarial diploma at NorthEast Iowa Community College in Peosta. Marie worked in several different jobs and positions throughout her lifetime. She worked as a Certified Nurses Assistant for over 20 years and was a member of the Army Reserve. In 1965, Marie met Kenneth Norpel of Dubuque and from this union Charlene Rene was born. In October 1965, Marie married Theodore "Ted" Nims, and a son Theodore "Tod" was born in 1970. Marie and Ted divorced in 1972. Marie married Roger Heister in 1990. They later divorced but were partners for the last thirteen years as Roger lovingly cared for her until her death. 

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and a sister Margaret "Peggy" Yarolem. She is survived by her children Charlene Perez (Alex), Tod Nims (Jennifer), and grandchildren Christian, Matteo, Reuben and Alexa, and sisters; Marjorie Smith, Marcella Nelson and nieces and nephews. Marie was a cancer survivor for over thirteen years. Marie was in the care of Hospice of Jackson County preceding her death. Online condolences may be directed to www.dawsonfuneral.com.
