Margaret Terese Cavanagh

Margaret Terese Cavanagh, 85, of Delmar passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa. Her funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 30, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Delmar. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Delmar.

Terese Cavanagh was born on April 3, 1939 in Monticello, Iowa to M. Leo and Mary (Picray) Hughes. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Bellevue and went on to earn her Nursing Degree at Loras College. On October 29, 1960 she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Cavanagh at St. Patrick’s Church in Delmar. Terese spent her time raising ten children and was a daycare provider for several years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Alter and Rosary Society. Terese enjoyed crafting and selling her homemade items. She would spend her time sewing, knitting and making quilts for each of her grandchildren.  Terese always had a puzzle going. She participated in the local bowling league and loved to play cards with her friends. Terese once shot a hole-in-one at the Canyon Creek Golf Course in Clinton. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs Fan and would even cheer for the St. Louis Cardinals when they weren’t playing the Cubs. She was a great cheerleader and fan for her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Deb (Tim) Maier of Dubuque, Joe (Jeanette) Cavanagh of Delmar, Joyce (Ron) Paulsen of Elwood, Betty (Steve) Diedrich of DeWitt, Marty (Laura) Cavanagh of DeWitt, Peggy (Pat) Trenkamp of Preston, Marcy (Dan) Fox of Rowley, Vicki (Ed) Kennedy of Springfield, Illinois, Ray (Kate) Cavanagh of Delmar, son-in-law Dale Delarm of Delmar, an honorary daughter Tricia Filloon of Grand Mound, 29 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way, two sisters; Sharon Kueter of Oxford, Linda (Jerry) House of Delmar and two brothers; Tony Hughes of Cuba City, Wisconsin, Mike (Jean) Hughes of Coralville, a sister-in-law Virginia Hughes of Preston.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Marjorie Delarm, sisters; Charlene (Pat) Cavanagh, Irene (Wayne) Claus, brothers; Tom (Aletha) Hughes, Merlin “Mick” Hughes, a sister-in-law Shirley Hughes and a brother-in-law Duane Kueter.
