Margaret "Peg" Miller

Margaret Mary “Peg” Miller, 87, of Maquoketa passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2020 surrounded by her family at The Bird Hospice House in Iowa City.

Her funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. A visitation will be held prior to her mass at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Delmar. Dawson Funeral Services is caring for her family at this time. Masks are required for those attending and social distancing guidelines will be followed for the health and safety of everyone.

Margaret Mary was born on October 15, 1933 in DeWitt, Iowa to Joseph and Margaret (Mulvihill) Cavanagh. She attended country grade school “Wilson #2” and in 8th grade she went to Delmar High School, graduating in 1951. She then went onto Nursing School earning her degree from St. Anthony’s School of nursing in Rock Island. She worked as an RN for over 25 years at the Jackson County Public Hospital. On January 31, 1959 she was united in marriage to the love of her life James Miller at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Delmar. Peg is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael 1156.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children; Kay (Tracy) Hansen. Lynn (Kevin) Hatfield both of West Branch, Thomas (Nancy) Miller of Baldwin, Mark (Melissa) Miller of Preston, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Patrick, sister Kathleen Sams and three brothers; Donald, William and Robert Cavanagh.
