Marcia Ayres Obituary

Marcia Gaynor Ayres of London, UK and Tamarac, Florida was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Gaynor and Ila Davis.  She passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2026.

Those fortunate enough to know Marcia will remember her boundless energy, quick wit, and insatiable curiosity. Whether planning her next journey, discussing a new book, or sharing her love of music, art, and theatre, she brought enthusiasm and insight to every conversation.  Her passion for learning, travel, culture, and the arts remained a defining part of her life.  She spoke multiple languages and delighted in connecting with people from all backgrounds and cultures.  Her love of horse riding reflected her adventurous spirit.

Marcia had a lifelong love of dance.  After graduating from Roosevelt University in Chicago she trained and performed in Chicago and New York before moving to Berlin to tour with the Hiller-Ballet. She remained in Europe for several years before settling in London where she raised her family while building a respected career as a teacher, performer, and choreographer.  After retirement she spent the winters in Florida where she took on a new role of stage manager in local theatre.  She also enjoyed many years of volunteer work at The Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale and the Richmond Shakespeare Society at the Mary Wallace Theatre in Twickenham.

Marcia’s love of learning, fearless sense of adventure, and unwavering dedication to the arts enriched countless lives.  Her beloved husband, Frederick Ayres, passed away ten days after her.  After nearly sixty years of marriage they are together once again.  She is survived by her daughter Koren Ayres; her godson Benjamin O’Reilly; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Marcia will be laid to rest in her family plot in Delmar, Iowa.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, fellow artists, former students, and all who were inspired by her generosity, humour, and vibrant spirit.
