Lois H. Dohrn

Lois H. Dohrn passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 9 pm at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics at the age of 82 after living with an incurable disease; Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension for the past 38 years. 

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of her funeral service. Burial will be at Lost Nation Cemetery.  Dawson Funeral Services of Maquoketa, Iowa is caring for her family. 

Lois was born in Maquoketa, Iowa to Elroy and Bernice (Ruggeberg) Gruenwald on January 26, 1941. She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1958. After graduating high school, she attended Cedar Rapids Business College.  Lois then worked as a bookkeeper for several years before working and retiring from JCPenney after a 30 plus year career.  

On September 1, 1962 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Alvin John Dohrn at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation, Iowa.  Lois was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and playing cards.  What she loved and cherished most was her grandson Trent, her pride and joy.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Al, of over 60 years; her daughters Linda (Aaron) Chiaravalle of Bartonville, IL, Catherine (David) Frandson and her grandson Trent Dohrn Frandson all of Ankeny, IA. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ron Gruenwald.
