Leland G. Winch, 70, of Maquoketa, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at his home, leaving a lasting legacy as an inspiring organ donor who gifted life to others .A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Grossman Hall in Delmar. Dawson Funeral Services is caring for his family.
Leland was born on October 13, 1954, in Dixon, Illinois, to Walter and Betty (Potter) Winch. He graduated from Polo High School and was united in marriage to Connie Tomman on June 22, 1974, in Clinton, Iowa. Leland worked as a Pressman for most of his career, and also as a gravedigger and cheesemaker—truly a jack of all trades. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, tending to his large garden, and watching cowboy and western movies. A huge Lady Gaga fan, Leland could often be found listening to her music while enjoying his simple life at home.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Connie, three children: Kurt (Erin) Winch of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin; Stacy (Dan) Simmons of Delmar; and Mark (Erin) Winch of Tipton, along with eight grandchildren: Kara, Colten, Klair, Ali, Kyle, Tyler, Liam, and Hailey.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melvin and Walter Jr. In honor of his legacy, memorial contributions may be made to his family to distribute to various charities. Cards can be sent to Dawson Funeral Services, Attn: Leland Winch Family, PO Box 258, Wyoming, Iowa 52362.
