Larry N. Kilburg

Larry Nicholas Kilburg, 82, of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, February 23, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, surrounded by his family after experiencing a sudden stroke.

Larry's Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:00 am with a visitation one hour prior at Sacred Heart Church in Maquoketa, burial at the Andrew Cemetery will be held at a later date. Dawson Funeral Services of Maquoketa is caring for his family.

Larry was born on January 12, 1943 to Anthony and Rosella (Feller) Kilburg, of Bellevue, Iowa. Larry married Julie Ann Lehmkuhl of Maquoketa, Iowa on August 14, 1971, at Sacred Heart Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Larry farmed the Kilburg Century Family farm his entire life. Together Larry and Julie farmed for over 53 years while raising their two daughters until retiring to Maquoketa in 2019. During his retirement, they enjoyed attending auctions (collecting model tractors), as well as horse and dog shows. His hobbies included, playing cards with family and friends, playing bingo and going on “Sunday Drives”. He frequented Euchre tournaments at the VFW in Sabula, the Euchre Marathon at the Senior Center, and Roy’s in Preston on Sunday afternoons.  Sunday afternoon cards were almost always followed by a trip to Geno’s for pizza. Larry enjoyed going to grandchildren’s sporting events and horse functions. He could spend countless hours listening and talking to the grandkids about horses. Larry did not know a stranger. He was known for his ability to talk, make jokes, and find a nickname for everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Julie (Lehmkuhl) Kilburg of 53 years, his daughter Amy (Doug) Prochnow of Menomonie, WI and Jodi (Cord) Heim of Bellevue, Iowa, five grandchildren: Cody, Colton (Cole), and Jalyn Heim, Kira and Meghan Prochnow, two great-grandhcildren Millie and Mylee Heim. His surviving sisters and in-law include Frieda Ernst, Patricia “Pat”Ernst, and Betty (Duane) Ernst. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and in-laws, Anthony “Tony” and Rosella Kilburg and eight brothers and sisters, Orville (Ivis) Kilburg, Leanna (Eldon) Sieverding, Lillian (Cletus Stillmunkes and Albert “Bud”) Knake, Mary Anna (Peter) Sprank, Rosemary (Orville) Roling, Sylvester “Jim” (Mary Lee) Kilburg, Cletus (Linda) Kilburg, Donald “Poochie” Ernst and Greg Ernst.

In honor of Larry’s legacy, memorial contributions may be made to his family to be distributed to several various charities in his honor.
