Larry Curley Obituary

Larry D. Curley, 81 of Oxford Junction passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Jackson County Regional Health Center. 

His visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Oxford Junction Legionnaire. His funeral will follow at 11:30 am at the Oxford Junction Legionnaire. Burial will be at Mayflower Cemetery in Oxford Junction. Dawson Funeral Services of Oxford Junction is caring for his family.

Larry Dean was born on January 11, 1942 to Raymond and Anna (Leslie) Curley. On January 2, 1960 he married the love of his life Marlene McClure in Clarence, Iowa. Larry worked at Clinton Engines testing go kart engines. Also he worked at Wilson’s in Cedar Rapids and for the Milwaukee Railroad before working at Alcoa for 37 years until retirement. Larry was a member for over 25 years of the USW Local #105. In 2021 he was inducted into the Maquoketa Speedway Hall of Fame. Larry cherished spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He raced stockcars for seven years in Eastern Iowa. Larry was a hard worker and was always out tending to his garden, mushroom hunting or raising ginseng Larry loved to travel and go on cruises. Marlene and Larry went on numerous camping trips all over the United States. Ireland was one of his favorite places and he got to visit twice. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and always enjoyed fishing in Alabama and Arkansas every year. He loved mowing and would often mow for others.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Marlene, four children Mike Curley of Wyoming, Iowa, Mark (Laurie) Curley of Mountain Home, AR, Sherry (Bruce) Ruchotzke of Maquoketa, and Dean (Tessa) of Good Hope, IL; nine grandchildren Joshua, Ashley, Jensen, Devin, Erin, Anna, Johnathan, Taylor, Jerid; 11 great grandchildren and his siblings; Lyle Curley, Elizabeth Minchew, Wayne Curley, Danny Curley, Dennis Curley, Rex Curley, Peggy Wolfe, Bonnie Kuehl, Mary Score.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Raymond Jr., Arnold, Keith; and sisters; Beverly, Marjorie and Marsha.
