Judith Ann Beranek, age 84, of Oxford Junction, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on
Wednesday, February 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Judith was born on August 3, 1941, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Harold Hansen and Evelyn
(Smith) Hansen. From the very beginning, Judith’s life was defined by her deep care for others
— a trait that never wavered.
In January of 1966, she married the love of her life, Darrell Beranek. Together they built a home
rooted in love, patience, and devotion. Judith’s greatest joy was caring for her family. She was
the heart of the home — always making sure everyone was fed, cared for, and loved. Whether
she was sewing, baking bread and buns, crafting, or scrapbooking, everything Judith did was
done with love.
Judith worked for many years as a Postmaster with the United States Postal Service in Toronto
before retiring. Even in retirement, she remained busy caring for others. She was known for her
quiet strength, steady presence, and — as her family lovingly says — her lifelong talent
for keeping her ornery husband in line. Darrell may have been a bit stubborn, but Judith always
knew just how to set him straight, usually with a look, a gentle word, or a well-timed reminder.
Judith was a faithful member of the Community Church of Toronto. She was also active in the
Legion Auxiliary, always willing to help wherever she was needed.
Above all else, Judith treasured her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She
loved watching them grow, making memories with them, and being present in their lives. Her
care and love shaped generations.
Judith is survived by her beloved husband, Darrell Beranek, of Oxford Junction; her
children, Teri (Mike) Wiese, Toni (Andrew) Spurling, Kama (Jeremy) Shoaff, and Darren
Beranek; her daughter-in-law, Jeanine; her sister, Dorothy “Dee Dee” (Steve) McCormick; 19
grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a large circle of family and friends who were
blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Evelyn Hansen, a son Timothy, three
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at the
Memorial Hall in Wyoming. Dawson Funeral Services of Oxford Junction is caring for her
