Juanita Merrill Obituary

Juanita Merrill, 86, lifelong resident of Wyoming, Iowa passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Juanita was born on January 4, 1934 in Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Vincent and Gloe Eilers. Juanita received her education in Wyoming. On May 26, 1951, Juanita married Thane “Zip” Merrill, Jr. at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church. To this union, three children were born. Juanita began her work for Collins Radio in Anamosa and then moved to the plant in Cedar Rapids. She continued there for 34 years, retiring from her position as Engineering Inspector in 1990. Juanita enjoyed golfing and was active on the Ladies Golfing Committee at Little Bear for many years. Zip and Juanita enjoyed spending their winters in Sebring, Florida where they coordinated a weekly golf group. She also enjoyed camping and fishing along the Mississippi River. Juanita served on the Wyoming City Council.

Juanita is survived by her husband Thane of 69 years, daughter Gail of Anamosa, sons; Dan (Kelly) of Anamosa and Alan (Nancy) of Cedar Rapids, one grandson Nicolas (Kelsey) Merrill of Springville, one granddaughter Michelle (Ryan) Buhr of Norwalk and four great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, a granddaughter and one great grandson.

Due to the pandemic, the family will be having a private ceremony. Dawson Funeral Services of Wyoming is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers Juanita’s family wishes memorials may be directed to the Wyoming Cemetery Association in her honor.
