John Dale Spores Sr., 69, of Center Junction, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Olin Park Building in Olin, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date at the Olin Cemetery. Dawson Funeral Services of Olin is caring for his family.
John was born on February 10, 1956, to Harold Spores Sr. and Maxine (White) Spores. On May 3, 1975, he was united in marriage to Sheryl Toomer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Together, they built a loving home and shared 50 years of marriage.
John was a dedicated truck driver for Midwest Motor Express. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. Outside of work, John enjoyed the simple things in life—spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, and most of all, cherishing every moment with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheryl Spores; four children: Angela (Justin) Bernards of South Dakota, John D. Jr. (Chantel) Spores of Cedar Rapids, Amanda (Jeff) Newell of Olin, and Olivia Spores of Center Junction; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a three brothers, Jerry (Debbie) Spores of Cedar Rapids, Stanley (Joyce) Spores of the Philippines, Bill Spores of Indaniola, one sister, Myra Barrette of Cedar Rapids and a sister-in-law Karol Spores of Cedar Rapids.
John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of nature, and the deep love he had for his family—especially the joy he found in being a grandpa. His legacy lives on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
