John Lary Obituary

John A. Lary, 83, of Maquoketa, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at
home with his family by his side.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at
Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa. His funeral Mass will be held on Monday,
November 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Burial
with Military Honors will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Delmar.
John Alfred was born on March 2, 1940, in Maquoketa, Iowa to Wilmer and Helen
(Powers) Lary. He graduated from Delmar High School in 1957. Following high
school, he faithfully and honorably served in the United States Air Force. In
November of 1966, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Maureen
McClimon, at Sacred Heart Church in Lost Nation. He worked with his father for
many years and later owned and operated Farmers Supply Center Inc. in Delmar,
DeWitt, and Wheatland with his brother Gene Lary. John was a member of Sacred
Heart Church in Maquoketa and a former Knights of Columbus Council #8269. He
also was a member of the Delmar Lions and enjoyed volunteering in his
community. A jack of all trades, John could fix anything and was always ready and
willing to help friends and family with home projects. He enjoyed traveling with
his wife and was an avid golfer. John was a dedicated family man and cherished
every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 57 years, Maureen;
daughter Michelle (Greg) Jareczek of Chicago, Illinois; two sons, David (Kimberly)
Lary of San Diego, California, and Michael (Crystal) Lary of Vancouver,
Washington; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Samantha and A.J. Jareczek; Kellen and
Devan Lary; Aden and Helen Lary; and his brother, Gene Lary, of Delmar.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher, and sister Joan Trentz.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County or the Delmar
Development Committee in his honor. Cards of condolences may be sent to
