Jean A. Hughes

Jean A. Hughes, formerly of Coralville, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born on December 21, 1940, in Ravenna, Nebraska, to Elmer T. Rasmussen and Jane (Erazim) Rasmussen. Jean graduated from Rockville High School and went on to attend Kearney State Teachers College, where she earned her degree in education.

In March of 1963, Jean was united in marriage to Paul Stevens, and two children were born of this union: Kelli and Joseph. They later divorced, and in 1986 she married Mike Hughes.

Jean was a woman of many talents and great work ethic. Over the years, she worked as a secretary in banking, a teacher, and a transcriptionist—careers in which she was respected and admired. She was a proud member of the Coralville, Iowa Legion Auxiliary.

Jean’s hobbies were a reflection of her creative and joyful spirit. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, photography, racing, crossword puzzles, and was an avid fan of Husker football and Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family, attending gatherings, and traveling to make memories with those she loved.

She is survived by her husband Mike, children, Kelli (Maranville) of Omaha and Joseph Stevens of Springville, Nebraska; three stepchildren: Rick (Kay) Hughes, Curt Hughes, and Angie (Jake) Brewster; her brother, Gary Rasmussen of Parker, Colorado; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Delmar, Iowa.
