Fred “Freddy” Dauber, 95, of Onslow passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the Mercy Hospice House in Hiawatha.
A private graveside service will be held at Greene Center Cemetery in rural Morley.
Fred was born on May 5, 1929, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, to Edward and Vera (Henderson) Dauber. He graduated from Stanwood High School in 1947. During his school years, he worked for several local farmers. On July 17, 1948 he was united in marriage to Wanda Smith in Cedar Rapids. His true passion was truck driving, where he met many people over the years. He owned and operated Dauber Truck Line until 1970. He enjoyed working on his antique cars. Fred was a sociable guy who would strike up conversations with anyone he met. He was always lending a helping hand, working on lawnmowers or waxing and changing oil in his cars. He enjoyed his trips to Tama to play the penny machines. In his spare time he would watch WWE.
Those left to cherish his memory include three children: Judy Shaffer of Marion, Pam Dauber of Cedar Rapids, Tom Dauber of Green Bay, Wisconsin, ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, two brothers and his beloved pets.
Fred’s family would like to express a special thank you to his extended family Brad and Lisa Wherry and the gang at Wyoming Auto Parts, his neighbors Holly Lane and Chris and Danelle Snyder, Kirk Westphal, the Casey’s Crew, and his doctors: Dr. Tony Myers, Dr. Saxena and Dr. Jen Lee for the amazing care they gave to him over the years.
In lieu of memorials or flowers, the family requests that you enjoy a cup of coffee and remember one of the many good stories he had to tell. Cards of condolences may be directed to Dawson Funeral Services, Attn: Fred Dauber Family, P.O. Box 258, Wyoming, Iowa 52362.
