Fern M. Goettler

Fern M. Goettler, 86, of Andrew passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa. 

A visitation will be held at Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 pm.  Her funeral service will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:30 am at Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew. Burial will take place at the Andrew Cemetery. 

Fern Margaret was born on August 29, 1934 to Blair and Edna (Beck) Wentworth of Spragueville. She graduated from Maquoketa High School. She worked as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell until 1958. 

On December 8, 1956 she was united in marriage with Harold Goettler at Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville.  Fern helped her husband Harold on their family farm while raising four daughters. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew. She enjoyed baking, (especially Angel Food cakes), cooking, sewing, and tending to her garden and flowers. Over the years she made over a thousand blankets which she donated to Project Linus and other charities. 

Fern will be sadly missed by her four children: Kathy (Dean) Haverkamp of Maquoketa, Gail (Ted Westlund) Goettler of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sharon Goettler of Maquoketa, Peggy DeBoer of Waukee, two grandchildren Sam Westlund and Emily DeBoer, a brother Bill (Joan) Wentworth of Spragueville and a brother-in-law Raymond “Rusty” Hayes of Maquoketa. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two infant sons and a sister Lois Hayes.
