Elijah Husemann, age 24, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on January 13, 2026.
Elijah was born on March 12, 2001, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Thomas and Shannon (Kumura) Husemann. He later made his home in Maquoketa, where he worked at Nordstrom’s Warehouse.. He valued family, carried himself with quiet strength, and was someone others could rely on.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and listening to Hawaiian country music. Elijah appreciated simple things and lived life with sincerity, humility, and heart. He was ranked 2nd in the state for outrigger canoeing.
He is survived by his grandparents Thomas and Georgette Husemann Sr., Deb Husemann, his parents, Thomas and Shannon Husemann; his siblings, Palenape, Imihana, Maihealani, Payton, Reba, Dani, Kaneala, and Ilima; his fiancé Alexus Woodford along with other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maihealani, and his auntie Mamo.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with Maxx Tone officiating. A luncheon will be held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Maquoketa from 1:00-5:00 pm. Elijah will be remembered as a proud son and brother, and a man whose strength, loyalty, and quiet kindness left a lasting mark on everyone he met.
