Edith M. Ireland

Edith M. Ireland, 88, of Holmen, Wisconsin passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Gundersen Medical Center, La Crosse, Wisconsin.  She was born in Clinton County, Iowa on February 15, 1935 to Walter and Mary (Koranda) Becker.  On February 26, 1955 Edith married Stuart Ireland, and he preceded her in death on December 26, 2011.

Edith was born on the Becker family farm outside Lost Nation, Iowa. She graduated from Lost Nation High School and worked for a short time at the telephone office. She met Stuart Ireland at a dance when he was home on leave from the Navy and they married February 26, 1955. They settled down in Wyoming to raise their family. Edith was devoted to her family and happiest when they could all be together. She was warm and caring and always concerned about the welfare of others whether it was family, friends or her beloved pets.

She was a member of the Wyoming Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed the fellowship and service of the Women's Circle. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was initiated in 1968 into the Wyoming chapter. She was proud to be a lifetime member.

In later years she and Stuart moved to Holmen, Wisconsin to be near their son and his family. She regularly attended Holmen Lutheran Church and enjoyed her new Women's Circle friends.

Edith is survived by two daughters, Linda Ireland and Cathy (Ralph) Adamson; son, Stu (Shari) Ireland; six grandchildren, Lindsey Adamson, Melissa (Matthew) Raub, Meg (Joel) Beally, and Bradley, Sianna, and Van Ireland; and two great grandchildren, Aidan and Keira Raub.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Ellen Flagel and Betty Scott; and a brother Vernon Becker.

Her visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Smithtown Cemetery, rural Lost Nation with Rev. Dennis Rodenberg officiating.
