Dorothy Joan Waters Eggert, age 95, passed away peacefully at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, Iowa, on January 7, 2026.
Dorothy was born on April 29, 1930, at home in Lowden, Iowa, to Charles C. Waters and Grace Osgood Waters. She grew up in Lost Nation, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from Lost Nation High School. During her teenage years, she worked in town as a waitress at Smitty’s Café.
On August 15, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ralph J. Eggert at St. John Lutheran Church in Lost Nation. They made their home in Wyoming, Iowa, where they spent their entire married life. Five children were born to this union: James, Joy, Julie, Jerome, and Jeffrey. Ralph preceded Dorothy in death, passing suddenly on September 18, 1995.
Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests, including bingo, bowling, golf, paint classes, ceramics, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and decorating with yo-yos.
Survivors include her children: James (Carol) Eggert, Jerry (Kathy) Eggert, Jeff (Dawn) Eggert, Joy Eggert, and Julie (Joe) Wojcik; eleven grandchildren: Craig (Beth) Eggert, Chris (Chloris) Eggert, Chad (Missy) Buresh, Barry (Dayna) Buresh, Megan (David) Uridge, Kate (Dale) Richtsmeier, Beth (Mark) Reimer, Sarah (Shane) Gallagher, Kelli Eggert, Leigh Eggert, and Paige Eggert; seventeen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Connie Nissen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; two brothers; and five sisters.
