Donovan "Mike" J. Mead

Donovan J. “Mike” Mead, 82, of Center Junction passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024 at his home.

A private graveside service will be held at North Madison Pioneer Cemetery in rural Center Junction. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 30 at the Central Park Enclosed Pavilion from 5:00-8:00 pm. Dawson Funeral Services is caring for his family.

Donovan James was born in Jones County, Iowa on August 12, 1941 to James L. and Neva (Huffman) Mead. He graduated from Olin High School in 1959. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Germany. On May 18, 1963 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Judy Hamilton in New Hampton. Mike’s work included delivering fertilizer, carpentry, and as a rural mail carrier until retirement. “Troublemaker” enjoyed the outdoors and would go hunting or fishing any chance he got. He enjoyed causing havoc and giving people a hard time. He loved to “Supervise” projects by sitting in his chair with a cooler.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years Judy, four children: Michelle (Brock) Hansen of Wyoming, Denise Mead of Phoenix, Arizona, Karla (Roger) Bowen of Wyoming, James (Megan) Mead of Maquoketa, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a sister Myrna “Cokie” Eggers of Tipton.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Beverly Foster.
