Danney D. Harms

Danney Donald Harms, 70, of Olin, Iowa, passed away surrounded by the people and the place he loved.

Born on August 22, 1955, in Maquoketa, Iowa, Danney was the son of Donald and Dolores (Christiansen) Harms. He married Angie Haskin, and together they raised four children. Though they later divorced, they remained united in their dedication to their family.

Danney was a hard worker his entire life. He spent many years as a meat cutter and was known for his skill in construction—building houses, fixing anything that needed fixing, and helping people out whenever they needed a hand.

Danney was happiest outdoors. He loved rock hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and spending weekends at shops and flea markets hunting for antiques and good bargains. He had a sharp eye for collectibles and took pride in the pieces he found. Time with family was important to him—especially days out on the boat and enjoying the outdoors together. He also served his country with honor in the United States Army.

Danney is survived by his ex-wife, Angie; his four children, Dawn (Mike French) Bixler of Onslow, Lynette (Stuart) VandeVenter of Tiskilwa, Illinois, Adam Harms of Olin, and Dustin (Chelsey Havill) Harms of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Dorrene Smith of Minnesota, Davina (Skip) Matthews of Prairie du Chien, and Dana Reed of Prairie du Chien; and eleven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothea Horsfall and Donna Gilliand; and a brother, Darrell Harms.

A celebration of life will be held on January 10th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hammer’s Hideaway in Olin, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.dawsonfuneral.com.
