Charles Westphal, 92, of Maquoketa passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Genesis East in Davenport.
A visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Dawson Funeral Services in Maquoketa. His funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, August 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa where a visitation will be held prior to his service starting at 9:30 am. Burial with military honors will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Maquoketa.
Charles William was born on November 4, 1931, at home in Clinton County, Iowa to Raymond and Nora (Holtz) Westphal. Charles went on to faithfully and honorably serve in the United States Army. On September 29, 1956 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Shirley Mae Dimmer at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Zwingle. Charles was a lifelong farmer. Charles was a member of the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75. He spent his time socializing and playing cards with family and friends. In their early days Charles and Shirley loved dancing. Charles could be found having coffee at the welding shop, volunteering at the Maquoketa Visitors Center, and supporting his grandkids at their sporting events.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley, three children; Jim Westphal of Davenport, Julie (Jesus “Piri”) Hernandez of Rock Island, Joel (Kimberly) Westphal of Fruitland, four grandchildren; Dakota Westphal, Keosha Westphal, Chelsey Hernandez, Adriana Hernandez; one great-grandson Clark Westphal and his two sisters; Marcella Burmahl and Janet Schmidt both of Maquoketa and a sister-in-law Lois Westphal.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Leo, one sister; Mardella Anderson, and a special cousin Deb Hall.
