Charles R. Townsend

Charles Raymond Townsend, 69, passed away on June 15, 2026, at Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Charles was born on October 21, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of James Townsend Sr. and Opal Clarey Cain. He spent much of his life working as a laborer and was known for his strong work ethic. Charles enjoyed wrestling and had a special love for his dogs, who were faithful companions throughout his life.

Survivors include his brother, Patrick Cain of Oxford Junction, Iowa, niece and nephews: Tammy Gutwiler, Jimmy Townsend III, Tommy Townsend as well as other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Townsend Sr. and Opal Clarey Cain; Siblings:  Jim, Jerry, Sherman, Sandy & Franny and his lifelong companion James H. Sanborn.

Charles will be remembered for his loyalty, his independent spirit, and the love and companionship he shared with his beloved dogs.
