Arlin Kilburg Obituary

Arlin J Kilburg, 93 of Maquoketa, IA. passed away December 2, 2023 surrounded by family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Dec. 7, 2023  at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, IA. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Otter Creek, IA. Visitation will be held 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Dec. 6, 2023 at Dawson Funeral Home Maquoketa. IA. also 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church prior to Mass.

Arlin was born September 12, 1930 in Jackson County, IA., son of Nicholas and Frances (Clasen) Kilburg. On October 20, 1953 he was united in marriage to Bernice Fuegen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sugar Creek, IA. The couple farmed their entire life and he also did custom farming, retiring in 1994 moving to Maquoketa and becoming members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was involved in many things throughout his life. Arlin was President of the Jackson Co. Pork Producers, 4-H Leader of Otter Creek Jr. Farmers, County Manager for Archer Oil, President of the Double DJ Twirlers Square Dance, served on Parish Council at St. Lawrence Parish, Grand Knight of LaMotte K of C Council  #4236  and member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights later transferring to K of C Council #8269 of Sacred Heart of Maquoketa, and Director of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Maquoketa.

He enjoyed spending many hours in his woodworking shop. All of his family have treasures made by him through the years. His workshop has fixed many broken treasures and built many new ones. It was his favorite place to go (dusty as it was!) Arlin was never too busy to help someone with a project or a problem and a challenge always brought a smile to his face.

He loved traveling, golfing, square dancing, but most importantly spending time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.

Survivors include his children; Dan (Colleen) Kilburg of Maquoketa, Carolyn (Loras) Weber of Bellevue, Richard Kilburg of Bernalillo, NM, Steve Kilburg of Grand Mound, Terry (Karen) Kilburg, Joe (Charleen) Kilburg, both of LaMotte, and Barb(J) Schanbacher of Atkins; 14 Grandchildren and 22 Great-Grandchildren.  Siblings; Don (Viola) Kilburg, Norma (Dave) Sieverding,  Judy Moran, a sister-in-law Mary Kilburg, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice, a son Duane, brother Leon, a sister Sr. Lou Ann Kilburg, and brother-in-law Michael Moran.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County or as family wishes.

The family would like to thank the Staff at Clover Ridge-Maquoketa, Mill Valley Care Center Bellevue, and especially the entire Staff of Hospice of Jackson County for the excellent care they have given to Arlin.
