Willis J. Bramer of Castle Rock, Colorado and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away on June 22, 2014. Funeral Services for his life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa. Willis John Bramer was born May 18, 1917 in Jones County Iowa to William and Martha (Jansen) Bramer. He attended Spencerville rural school and the Onslow High School. On June 24, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marian A. Moeller at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Willis and Marian farmed west of Maquoketa for many years until retirement. Besides his deep love, hard work and commitment to farming and Farmall tractors, over the years he was active with Farm Bureau, Buckhorn Creamery, a committeeman on the Soil Conservation Program, ushering and councilman for the First Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood and played on their dart ball team. He helped in the construction of the original Little Bear Park and for years would walk the playground and report any needed repairs. He was dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather as well as a friend and neighbor to everyone he knew or met. He is survived by his wife Marian of nearly 69 years; three daughters, LuJean (Lud) Gocek of Nazareth, PA, Brenda Lee (Kim) Rennecker of Castle Rock, CO, and Roxi Ann (John) Riley of Missoula, MT; six grandchildren, Joel (Cyndi) Gohlmann of Virginia, Nick (Nicki) Gohlmann of West Virginia, Jessica (David) McDonald of Montana, Phillip (Melissa) Riley of Oregon, Angela (Devin) Karr of Montana, Grace Rennecker of Colorado; nine great-grandchildren, Corbin, Chase, Cooper and Carys Gohlmann, Carter and Cael Gohlmann, Elle and Mimi McDonald and Sylvie Karr also several nephews and nieces of the Maquoketa area. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and brother-in-laws, Helen (Everett) Eads, His twin sister Lois (Junior) Hicks and LaRane (Harold) Mohr and a niece, Mona Kaye (Mohr) Holmes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice or First Lutheran Church of Maquoketa.
