Obituary

Ruth Orr, 90, of Cascade, formerly of Onslow, passed away on August 8th, 2026.

Ruth was born 9-27-35 to Lloyd and Mabel (Brodersen) Fadley.  She graduated from Onslow High School with the Class of 1953.  After graduation she went to Hamilton's Business College in Cedar Rapids.  In 1955, she accepted her first (and only) full-time job in the Assessors Office at the Jones County Courthouse in Anamosa, which she would retire from over 43 years later.

Before getting married, Ruth took a couple of cross-country trips with her friends from Onslow.  In 1953, she and Barb Dieteker (Harms) and Phyllis Harms set out from Iowa to drive to Colorado.  They had a great time visiting Pike's Peak and the Royal Gorge.  4 years later, Joan Dusanek would join the trio and they would take Barb's new 1957 Ford on another trip, this time heading East.  They went down through Tennessee to see the Smokey Mountains, then up to Virginia Beach to see the Atlantic Ocean and finally into Washington DC where they took a tour of the Dwight D Eisenhower White House.

She married Alvin Orr in January of 1962.  After many happy years, Alvin would die in November of 2011, just two months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ruth is survived by her only child, Mike, her ex-daughter-in-law, Beth, and her grandson, Brandon, all of Onslow, and her grandson Brock and his wife Madeline, and great grandson, Kasen, all of Cascade.  She also is survived by her niece, Jana Brownell, and her nephews, Joe & Jason Paulsen and a special cousin, Nancy Kuehl.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alvin, and her sister Jane.

Ruth had many friends from her years at the assessor's office and she enjoyed the annual "Retired Courthouse Ladies Luncheon" around Christmas time when they could all visit again.  Back when Alvin was still alive there were four other neighbor couples who often all went to dinner together (John & Pat Knake, Howard & Pat Sorgenfrey, John & Betty Wurst and Jim & Wilma Curtin).

She spent her last 8 years at Riverbend Assisted Living in Cascade and then Accura Healthcare in Cascade.  Her smile and good nature will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Dawson Funeral Home, Wyoming, on Monday, 8/17 from 10am-noon.  Service immediately following at noon.  Afterwards, a private graveside service will be held at the Wyoming Cemetery.
