Rochelle Ray, 76, of Maquoketa passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at her home.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately following at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Maquoketa. Friends and family may call on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., with the rosary being recited at 8:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa.
Rochelle was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on August 29th, 1937 to Forrest and Genevieve Kittoe. She Graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1955. She attended Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa, graduating in 1958. She married Thomas Ray of Maquoketa on April 25th, 1959. She is survived by her children; one son, Jeff (Cindy) Ray of Ardmore, Oklahoma, one daughter, Melissa Ray of Maquoketa, Iowa, four grandchildren; Chandler Ray of Dallas, Texas, Forrest, McKenna, and Cassidy Ray all of Ardmore, Oklahoma, her brother Forrest (Jan) Kittoe of Redwood City, California, a sister, Kathleen (Mike) Scott of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, nephews; Andrew Scott and Adam (Jackie) Scott, great nephews; Drew, Shane Jack and Ajay and a great niece, Abby. Rochelle owned and operated Ray Fashions and continued operating Ray's Jewelry in her husband's honor. She was very active within the community, serving on the Jackson County Hospital Board for many years, and a member of the Maquoketa Chamber of Commerce. She was the first woman on the Jackson County Fair Board. Rochelle was a charter member of the Peace Pipe Players and appeared in many productions. She had a beautiful singing voice and all through her life shared her talents with others. She enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with her friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her parents and her in-laws, Max and Isla Ray.
