Raymond "Ike" Brinkman, 93, of Lost Nation, died Thursday, August 27th, at his home at Lost Nation. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 5th at 10:30 AM at the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation, with burial in the Massillon Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, September 4th from 4-7 p.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation. Lahey Funeral and Cremation Services in Lost Nation is serving the family. Ike was born on July 5, 1922 near Lowden, IA to Charles and Bessie (Gregg) Brinkman, the 11th of 13 children. He married Laura Weasmer on June 10, 1949, at the Methodist parsonage in Maquoketa. He completed 8th grade at one room schools in the Lowden and Massillon areas and had just started 9th grade when he had to quit in order to work on the farm after his brother was injured in an accident. He worked on an egg route and on a creamery route as well, and also worked at the railroad in Clinton until WWII broke out, when he was sent home to work on the family farm. From there on, he farmed for the rest of his life in the Scotch Grove, Monticello and Wheatland areas, until finally purchasing the Lost Nation farm in 1963. He was a talented woodworker who could fix anything and was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation. He is survived by his wife, Laura, and one daughter, Jennie (Jeff) Davis, of Wheatland. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Bryce and Abigail Perry, and four step grandchildren, Kim, Brian, Sandra and Sue, and their families, as well as one sister, Gladys Seifert of Wheatland, and two sisters-in-law, Arline Brinkman of Chicago, IL and Doris Thompson of Davenport, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, Roy, Elijah, Merle, Burdette, Harold, Orville, Lloyd and Harlan, and three sisters, Mina, Agatha and Elsie. Memorials may be given to Camp Wyoming or to the Union Presbyterian Church.
