Orval Joseph Hatfield, 78, of Maquoketa, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2016 at Jackson County Regional Health Center surrounded by his family.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21 at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. A visitation will be held before the service from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Lahey Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Delmar, Iowa.

Orval was born on November 14, 1937 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Eugene and Lillian Hatfield. He married Larita Marie Shields on May 2, 1959 in LaFarge, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Fraternal order of the Eagles Club and Moose Lodge in Dewitt.

Orval worked for 22 years at Caterpillar in Mt. Joy retiring in 1981. He had also worked for City Power Plant, Clinton Engines as well as the Andrew School.

He enjoyed, camping, fishing, hunting and riding in the pontoon boat. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Larita, daughter Diane (Mark Higgins) Caven of Maquoketa, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, sisters; Phyllis Kelbel of Richland Center, Wisconsin, Verta (James) Revels of Hillsboro, brothers; Michael (Marilyn) Hatfield of Arena, Wisconsin, Gary (Sally) Hatfield of Cazenovia, Wisconsin, Jerry (Ellen Kay) Hatfield of Spring Green, Wisconsin, Kenneth (Linette) Hatfield of LaFarge, Wisconsin.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Verna.
