Mary Lou Thein, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Mary Lou Mueller was born August 2, 1928 in Garnavillo, Iowa to Albert and Marie (Degnan) Mueller. She was united in marriage to Melvin Thein on April 6, 1951 in Maquoketa, he passed away on July 10, 2013.

She went to school for cosmetology and then opened her own hair shop. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa.

Mary Lou is survived by four children; Tom (Loretta) Thein of Monticello, Terry (Mary Jo) Thein of Muscatine, Jane (Mike) Novak of Calamus, and Doug (Sarah) Thein of Ventura, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, 3 brother-in-laws; Richard Thein, Leonard Thein and Forrest Thein of Garnavillo, and two sister-in-laws Fay Thein and Shirley Thein of Garnavillo.

She was preceded in death by are her parents, her husband, two brothers; Louis and Willard, and two sisters; Charlene and Janelle.
