Marjorie Cornelius, 84, of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland, Iowa.

Funeral service will be on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa. Burial will be at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Spragueville, Iowa.

Marjorie Irene Hoffman was born on November 18, 1930 to parents George and Edna (Straub) Hoffman near Preston, Iowa. She was confirmed in Lutheran Faith at Preston Lutheran Church. She graduated from Preston High School in 1948, then attending Iowa State University for 2 years, majoring in home economics. Marjorie met Floyd Cornelius in 1950. They were united in marriage on January 1, 1951 at Preston Lutheran Church. They took a driving honeymoon to California following parts of Route 66. Their first home was south of Maquoketa along Highway 61. A few years later they purchased a farm near Petersville in Clinton County. In 1963 they moved to the farm southwest of Maquoketa where they farmed until retirement in the 1980's and moved to Maquoketa in 1990.

Marjorie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and Tuesday Club. She was also a member of a Circle at the church, and volunteering for every opportunity there was. She was a Master Gardener, with a passion for iris, daylilies and hostas. She had a skill for sewing, volunteering countless hours making quilts at the church, and operating a business called Marjorie's Custom Draperies for over 30 years.

She is survived by her children; Craig (Ann Hadden) Cornelius of Menlo Park, CA, Sig (Patricia Hoak) of Fulshear, TX, Joel Cornelius of Maquoketa and Jon (Amy Hight) Cornelius of DeWitt, 6 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd on November 12, 2001, her parents and brother, Alan.
