Lyle "Butch" Newell, 88, of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Crestridge in Maquoketa, Iowa surrounded by his family.

His wishes were granted by his family of cremation, with a private burial.

Lyle was born On April 6, 1925 in Newbedford, Ill. To Verner and Athera (Lathrop) Newell. Lyle was a World War II veteran and was awarded four medals of honor. He was the owner of several used furniture stores, he was an auctioneer, and he owned multiple bars and a trucking company. His passion in his life was helping others, but his greatest love was for his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a brother Edward (Pat) Newell of Galva, Ill.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Memorials are preferred.
