Kenneth C. Donovan, 78 of Andrew, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home with his family near his side on Sunday, March 16, 2014. Friends and family may call on Friday, March 21st, from 4 – 7 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM prior to mass, with burial taking place following the funeral at St. Patrick's Cemetery, North Garryowen, IA., with a luncheon in the school hall afterwards. Kenneth was born on October 26, 1935 to parents, Ignatius L. and Mary L. (Johnson) Donovan at home in Bernard, Iowa. He graduated in the class of 1953 from Garryowen. He married Lucy M. Reinert on August 28, 1956 at St. Peter & Paul Church in Sherrill, Iowa. Kenneth farmed with his parents, worked for 9 years at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, and retired from J I Case in Bettendorf. Kenneth owned and operated Donovan's Bait & Tackle on Main Street in Maquoketa for 25 years. Kenneth was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa Jaycees, and a member of the UAW. He was a member of the Men's Club affiliated with his church. He served as a member on the Board of Directors on the ECIA Housing Authority, and was a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year for the Governor's Volunteer Awards. Kenneth also helped establish the Andrew Library and hosted several Thanksgiving dinners for the seniors in Andrew. Kenneth loved to play a good hand of cards and looked forward to visiting over a cup of coffee. He was an all-around handyman specializing in wood working, he and Lucy spent many hours crafting furniture, toys, dollhouses, barns, and rocking horses. Kenneth loved to fish with his wife, children and grandchildren. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Lucy and children Cindy (Dave) Parmer, Craig (Dee) Donovan, Connie (Nick) Anderson, Catherine (Tim) Huber, Christopher (Amanda) Donovan and Colleen (Bryan) Sibthorp, 15 Grandchildren, Kristi, Erik, Nathan, Jill, Kat, Eli, Sara, Elizabeth, Mike, Zach, Caitlin, Laurel, Kylie, Anika and Shay, and 4 Great-Grandchildren, Wyatt, Donovan, Liam, and Samuel. Also his siblings including; Paul (Liz) Donovan and Sister in-law Marylee Donovan, and Lucy's siblings; Charles (Delores) Reinert, Bernard (Lori) Reinert, Frank (Beverly) Reinert, Peter (Betty) Reinert, Catie Orman, Ray (Glenda) Reinert, Molly (Mike) Murray, Clare Reinert, Margie Reinert and Karol Reinert. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Granddaughter Rowan, Dorrance (Donna) Donovan, Grace (Don) Bechen, Justin (Doris) Donovan, Merlyn Donovan and Ron Donovan. Also in-laws John Reinert, Mary and Paul Noesen, Anthony and Paula Reinert, Stan Orman and Joseph Reinert.
