Kathleen 'Katie' Sams, 78, of Delmar, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16th, 2015 at her home surrounded by family. Funeral Mass will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Delmar, on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 4:45 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Delmar. Kathleen Ann Cavanagh was born on May 2, 1936 in Clinton County, Iowa to parents Joseph and Margaret (Mulvihill) Cavanagh. Katie graduated in the class of 1954 from Delmar High School. She was united in marriage on November 22, 1958 to Philip Sams at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. In her earlier years she worked as a RN with Drs.' Broman & Brown at Jackson County Hospital, Maquoketa. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Alter & Rosary Society, and Red Hat Society, Delmar. Katie enjoyed working in the garden, and playing cribbage. Most of all Katie loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Katie is survived by her children; Jody (Paul) Stetzel, Delmar, IA, Jennifer (Michael) Isbell, Delmar, IA, and Dean (Cathy) Sams, Davenport, IA, 7 grandchildren, a great grandson, her sister, Margaret Mary Miller, Maquoketa, IA and her brother Don Cavanagh, Davenport, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, son, Matthew and brothers; Bob and Bill Cavanagh. Memorials are preferred. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.laheys.com
