Jonathan Paul Schmidt, age 40, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. He was diagnosed with adrenal cortical carcinoma in July 2013.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Lahey's Funeral Home 105 W Maple Street in Maquoketa, Iowa, where a private Vigil Service will be held before the visitation. Donations to Iowa State University Foundation, Ames Animal Shelter or memorials are preferred.

Jon was born April 8, 1974, in Maquoketa to Judy (Adrian) and Dale Schmidt. He graduated from Maquoketa Community High School in 1992 and then from Des Moines Area Community College. On July 17, 1999, he married Tina (Troutner) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He loved boating and camping on the Mississippi River, and spent many enjoyable weekends on the water with family and friends. He was also an avid Iowa State Cyclone Basketball fan and proud employee of Shuck Britson.

He is survived by his wife Tina, his parents Judy and Dale, his sister Stacy Schmidt, his grandmother Alvara Schmidt, his parents-in-law Kay and Frank Troutner, sisters-in-law Teria (Ken) Craven, Tricia (Tim) Schultz, nephew Matthew Schultz as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Rosemary and Don Morehead, his aunt Cathy Morehead, his grandfather John Schmidt, his uncle Dean Schmidt, his cousin Peter Schmidt and grandmother-in-law Marian Wood.
