John 'Jack' Allen Rubel, 79, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14th, 2014 at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Friends and family may call from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18th, at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Burial will be at Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springbrook with Military Honors.

John was born on January 4th, 1935 to Roland and Luella (Schmidt) Rubel in Bellevue, Iowa. He was a member of the United States Army from 1957 – 1959. He was united in marriage to Nancy Kloft on September 3rd, 1960 in Springbrook, Iowa.

John farmed with his wife and children outside of Springbrook on the Family Century farm until moving to Maquoketa in 1995. He worked for Smithson R.V., Sieg Auto Parts, then as a driver for Big A and Barron Motor Supply. John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. John loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

John is survived by his wife, six children; Christy (Rick) Helmle of Bellevue, William (Heidi) Rubel of Kingston, GA, John P. (Tracey) Rubel of Bellevue, Tom (Annette) Rubel of Reynolds, Ohio, Donald (Angie) Rubel of Bellevue, and Cindy (Daryl) Dell'Anno of Johnston, IA, thirteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, a brother, Gary Rubel of Maquoketa, and sisters; Shirley Laffey of Runnells, Iowa and Lorna Rubel of Preston, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Travis Pataska and three brothers-in-law.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County.
