John "Jack" L. West Sr., 81, of Dripping Springs, Texas, passed away on August 15, 2013, at the University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Sept. 28, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook, Iowa. Following the burial at the church cemetery, a lunch in will be served at Michels Hall, in Maquoketa, Iowa. Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, Iowa is assisting the family with the services.

John "Jack" was born in Moline, Illinois, on January 8, 1932, to Howard and Louella West. He joined the National Guard and was called to serve in the Army during the Korean War.

He married the love of his life Doneta "Dee" Rose Steines in 1959. They had two sons, John and Chuck. They moved from Moline to Brownsville, Texas, in 1972, where they opened Hair Gallery Salon. In 1992 they moved to Lakeway, Texas.

In 1996, Dee suffered a stroke and he cared for her until she passed away on July 11, 2008.

Jack enjoyed golf, fishing and a good book. His passions were his sons, grandkids and great-grandchild. Jack was very sociable and everyone that met him could not resist his charm.

Jack is survived by his two sons, John (Jennifer), Bee Cave, Texas, and Chuck (Nadia), Aviano, Italy; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sisters, Barbara Hoover, Moline, Il, Patricia Mock, Columbus, Ohio, and Joyce Condrack, Sarasota, Fl and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, mother and father; and stepfather, Charles Podaril.
