Georgie Jean (Russell) Coons went peacefully home cradled in the loving arms of her Lord, Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice house in Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 7 at 2:00 at Sacred Heart Church in Maquoketa, family will be present at 1:00. She will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Maquoketa.
She will be greeted in Heaven by her loving husband, Robert L Coons (Bobby), oldest son Rusty and family and friends who have passed before her.
Georgie Jean was born on February 22, 1935 in Seattle, Washington the youngest daughter of Ethel (Rush) and William Russell. Georgie Jean met Bobby, her handsome sailor, at the roller-skating rink, they fell in love were united in marriage on June 21st 1952 at her parents' home in Seattle. Bob and Jean had 38 happy years together raising a family, living in New York City, Houston, Texas, Bradley, Illinois, ultimately settling in beautiful Maquoketa. Jean loved reading, being with her St. Cecilia Circle, selling scrip, meeting with her birthday group, caring for her twin cats and most of all, sharing time with her family. Jean was employed as the Maquoketa School Board Secretary and worked at John Tona Accounting and Income Tax Service.
Georgie Jean will be remembered by her surviving children Cynthia (Kevin) Cone from Storm Lake, JoMarie Wells in Shawnee, Kansas and Randy Coons (Tara Fleming) from Davenport. Grandma Jean was noted for her delicious homemade treats, pies, pumpkin bread and fierce hugs by Kylor (Jamie) Cone, Nolan Cone, Abigail, Allison and Zoey Wells, Ryan Smith, Veronica and Makayla Fleming,
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lloyd and son, Russell Lealand as well as her parents and siblings.
The family wishes to thank the medial professionals who cared for mom during her brief stay, specifically Genesis West Oncology staff and the Clarissia C. Cook Hospice team.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be donated to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice house and Maquoketa's Little Bear Park restoration fund in Georgie Jean Coons' name.
