Harry Thies, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Lowden and Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at Manor Care in Dubuque, Iowa. Graveside services and burial will take be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. The family will greet family and friends on Thursday from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Harry, the son of Herman and Mary Thies, was born on June 1, 1924, in Bennett, Iowa. His whole life was farming and livestock, and upon his retirement, he moved to Maquoketa and sold animal health care products. He later moved to Dubuque to be with family. Harry loved to bowl, play golf and travel. He and his late wife, Evelyn, traveled to many countries in their retirement years and shared so many wonderful memories. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Harry is survived by his two sons: Joel (Sharon) Thies of Las Vegas, Nevada and Dan Thies of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, and his daughter-in-law, Sharon Thies of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn, his parents and his siblings: Pete Thies, Henry Thies, Christina Stock and Rose Mowry.
