Hans Bendixen, 82, of Wyoming, Iowa died Monday, July 1, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa of heart failure. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming, Iowa. Officiating will be Rev. Ginger Anderson of Zion American Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery north of Olin. Hans Bendixen was born August 24, 1930, in Amber, Iowa to Werner and Margaret (Osterkamp) Bendixen. He spent his formative years attending Wyoming School and working for many farmers (including his father) in the area. He married Dolores Said of Maquoketa on April 12, 1950, to which was born four children. Hans married Shirley Josvanger on February 3, 1973. Hans worked 37 years as a farmer. He worked 25 years at Big Bills. In 1980 he became a licensed chemical sprayer. He was a lifelong member of Zion American Lutheran Church. He was very committed to his family and friends always lending a helping hand when needed. Hans loved to farm and raise animals and grow crops. Other hobbies included; woodworking and watching the Cubbies. He is survived by four children; Linda Bendixen of Hiawatha, Thomas (Marlene) Bendixen of Maquoketa, Steven Bendixen of DeWitt, Mark Bendixen of Maquoketa, four step-children; Linda Doran, Steve Joshvanger, Kent Joshvanger, Lisa Russell, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, six siblings; Anna Marie Entsminger and Sylvia Rickels and life partner Eldon Covington of Anamosa, Margaret (Tom) Rohwedder of Wyoming, Richard (Arlene) Bendixen of Anamosa, Chris Bendixen of Olin, Evelyn (Jim) Heinius of Cedar Bluffs, Chrystal (Steve) Klatt of Olin and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Helen Fall and a brother Werner Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to heart research.
