Hometown: Maquoketa September 27, 1942 - September 09, 2014

Gus Glaser, 71, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died September 9th, 2014. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, burial with military honors will be in the Bridgeport Cemetery. Visitation will Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa. Gus retired from the Air Force where he was a Fighter Pilot with Lieutenant Colonel rank. He also had a bachelors in Microbiology and a Masters in Business Administration from Iowa State University. He enjoyed working many positions in his lifetime, most notably his 'Pittsburg project' in the Air Force where he turned things around over there, as President of Ames Credit Union, City Manager for both Maquoketa and Tipton, as well as years at the Pentagon. Gus was a longtime member of Rotary. He was very active in the club, served as Secretary for a great many years, and was a 7-time Paul Harris Fellow. Gus also served on a District level as a member of the Inbound/Outbound Youth Exchange committee. In addition, he was Assistant to the Assistant District Governor and one of the founders of the very first RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) in this District. He was also working on something new for Rotary, a Rotarian Organ Donation and Awareness Program (RODAP) and had hoped to take it to an International level where it could help greatest number of people. Gus enjoyed cooking for his family & friends, playing cards, giving donations to various organizations, gardening, construction projects, and family Wii games. He also enjoyed hard work, making a positive difference in the World, and coupons. Though not biological, Gus had a family who loved him and will miss him so very much: His longtime BFF Sherry, and Christie, who also idolized him, Grandsons Kaleb & Noah who adored him beyond belief (and definitely vice versa!), as well as Jason, Phil, Rachel, and the Family Shih Tzu dog he always talked about, Einstein. Gus also had friends who cared about him and will miss him greatly: Linda, Ralph, Caleb, Bobbie, Donna, Bud, Pete, Clyde, Dottie, Phyllis, Gaylon and many more. Gus was an amazing man who will be remembered as that… because he was beautiful. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.laheys.com
