Gertrude Weis Daehler, 93 of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away at the Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa on Saturday morning Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 at Lahey's Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where a vigil service will be held at 7 PM. Her funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, where friends may also call after 9:30 at the church. Burial at Sts Peter and Paul cemetery in Springbrook, Iowa. Gertrude was born on July 17, 1922 at home in Fairfield Township, Jackson County, Iowa to Michael and Wilhelmina Reuter Banowetz, She married Herbert Weis on February 16, 1942 in Sugar Creek, Clinton County, Iowa. They farmed for many years near Springbrook, Iowa. After retiring from the farm, they moved to Maquoketa, Iowa. Herbert Weis died on April 21, 2001. Gertrude married Walter Daehler on May 27, 2006. Walter died on April 30, 2012. Gertrude had been a member of the Catholic Daughters, Sacred Heart Guild, Quilting Club and Garden Club in Maquoketa, as well as a hospital gift shop volunteer. Gertrude and her late husband, Herbie, enjoyed their hobby of upholstery work. Gertrude is survived by four children: Lorraine (Rex) Houghton, Davenport, Iowa; Wayne (Connie), Madison, Alabama; Patricia (Greg) Stokesberry, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Ardell (Deb) Bellevue, Iowa. 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Brothers: Ray (Pat) Banowetz and Norbert (Vera) Banowetz of Cedar Rapids and Don (Anna Mae) Banowetz of Houma, Louisiana. Sisters: Clara Hermiston of Davenport, Sister Dolores Banowetz, O.S.F of Dubuque., Sister-in-law; Sally Banowetz of DeWitt. Gertrude was preceded in death by husbands; Herbert Weis and Walter Daehler; son, Dennis Weis; grandson, Jon Stokesberry; brothers Leo, Victor, Lawrence, Vincent, Leonard, Walter, Paul, Theodore, and sister, Elizabeth McDevitt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maquoketa Police Department or the Maquoketa Fire Department. A special thanks is extended to the staff at Maquoketa Care and to the ladies who cared for Gert when she was living at her home.
