Geraldine "Geri" Hayes, 88, of Maquoketa, Iowa passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. Friends and family may call from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa. Geraldine R. "Geri" was born on March 3, 1926 in Maquoketa, Iowa to parents William and Minnie (Thedens) Schunter. She was united in marriage to Paul T. J. Hayes on September 1, 1946 in Maquoketa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She worked as a secretary in her earlier years for Schroeder & Ahlers Law Firm, Ralph Kaufman, Schoenthaler, Lee & Roberg, Dr. F.J. Swift Jr., and Dr. Samuel Williams. She also volunteered at Maquoketa Care Center and her church. She enjoyed traveling, and entertaining and loved to play cards. Geraldine is survived by her daughter, Deborah "Debbie" (Glen) Gottschalk of Burlington, IA, her son, Mark (Debra) Hayes of Bettendorf, IA, 4 grandchildren; Caroline (Jeffrey) Stout, Rachel (Peter) Rugg, Michael Hayes and Angela Hayes, 2 great grandchildren; Catherine and Elizabeth Stout, her brother Raymond Schunter of Culpeper, VA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul T.J. Hayes, parents, 8 brothers, including her twin brother, Gerald "PeeWee" Schunter and 4 sisters. Memorials may be given to Camp Courageous or the United Methodist Church in Maquoketa
