Gary L. Block, 63, of Oxford Junction died Monday, February 18,2013, at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21,2013, at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors. Gary L. Block was born April 27, 1949, in Cascade, Iowa, to William and Stella (Brown) Block. On March 21, 2009, he was united in marriage to Joan James in DeWitt, Iowa. Gary was a senior software engineer at Rockwell Collins for ten years. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in DeWitt, a member of the American Legion Wapsie Post #473 of Oxford Junction, and the Ham Radio Club in Anamosa. He liked to do woodcarvings. He was an artist and painted murals in Oxford Junction. He also enjoyed poetry, song writing, and played the guitar. Gary is survived by his wife, Joan Block of Oxford Junction; 3 children, Shane (Heidi Jo) Block of Cedar Rapids, Wade Block and Jeremy Block of Oxford Junction; 3 step-children, Tonya Seaberg of DeWitt, Robin and Brandie Seaberg of Oxford Junction, five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, 3 brothers; Dick (Linda) Block of Lost Nation, Chuck (Darlene) and Eugene (Diane) Block of Maquoketa.
