Ethel Sterk-Burmeister, 92 of Lost Nation died on Thursday at the Select Medical Hospital in Davenport. Funeral Services for Ethel Burmeister will be held on Tuesday August 4th, at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lost Nation, burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lost Nation. Friends may call on Monday at Lahey's Funeral Home in Lost Nation from 5 to 7 P.M. Ethel M. Scott was born on February 25, 1923 in rural Baldwin to her parents Lewis C. and Ida Mae Houle Scott, the oldest of the nine children. She had attended the Baldwin High School and was a graduate in 1940. She went to Jane Lamb for Nurses training until attaining her Registered Nurse Certification. She married Edward J. Sterk in 1950, he passed away in 1984, later married Marvin Burmeister in September or 1989 , he also preceded her in death in 2006. Ethel was a registered Nurse and Supervisor with the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa for many years, and was later with Medical Associates in Maquoketa. She had also worked with Jolene Starr , New York Life agent for years , in Maquoketa following her medical career. Ethel, was always active in her church, and community, she was parish nurse for three different churchs, was active with the Sacred Heart Alter and Rosary Society, and the College Club in Lost Nation. She loved to sew, work in her garden, and was an active quilter when she could. Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Dickman of California, one son Emmett of Ames, One step-daughter Diane Feuss of Lost Nation. One Granddaughter, Emily (Jayson) Geisler of Rexberg, Idaho , two great grandchildren; Jaycob and Sydni Geisler. 4 Step Grandchildren and many step Great Grandchildren. One sister Beulah Shannon of Baldwin, two brothers; Dale Scott of Maquoketa, and Larry Scott of Alaska. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents one brother and four sisters. Memorials may be given in Ethel's memory to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
