Ernest Redmond, 82, of Davenport passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Iowa Masonic Nursing Home, joining his Lord. A Memorial Service in celebration of his life will be held 10:30 a.m.., Thursday, July 31st, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction. Burial will be in Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction, IA. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, IA. Memorials may be made to the family. Born in 1932, in Wyoming, IA., Ernest was the son of William and Joyce Redmond. On July 9, 1952, Ernest was united in marriage to the love of his life Vivian Yarolem in Davenport. They were blessed with three children. Ernest attended Wyoming Iowa Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. Ernest was a jeep mechanic in the service. Ernest worked for several farm implement dealers before going to work for Caterpillar, from which he retired in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion in Oxford Junction. Ernest participated on the Honor Flight in 2012. Ernest also enjoyed traveling many miles on his Honda Aspen Cade with his wife Vivian. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Vivian; daughter, Marla Redmond, Davenport; son, Dennis (Andrea) Redmond, Long Grove; 4 grandchildren, Tammy (James) Dirks, Kyle Redmond, Kelsey Redmond, and Zachary Redmond and two great grandchildren; a sister Alice Engelbart of Anamosa, IA. In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his daughter Julie, a great grandson, Christian Dirks, brothers Charles, William, and Gordon and sisters Leona and Viola.
